Having a newly born baby is usually associated with getting very little sleep and dealing with crying round the clock. However, moms dealing with a colicky baby really know the definition of no sleep.
Here are five easy tips for calming a baby who cannot seem to stop the waterworks.

1. Watch what you’re eating if your breastfeeding. Colic is believed to come from dietary allergies or irritants in a new babies diet, so by avoiding dairy, caffeine and chocolate that can often help. At the same note make sure your baby is breast feeding properly and getting enough to eat each time because an empty tummy can be worst then an upset one for crying babies.
2. Warm bottles to body temp and feed frequently. For bottle-fed babies, making sure they are full and happy is important. Try cutting back the amount of each bottle and doing more frequent feedings.
3. Make sure to burp! Remember colic is typically associated with babies having upset tummies. By making sure they’re getting gas out can help solve the most frantic of criers.
4. Cuddle and swaddle. Newborns need attention, and skin to skin contact can calm even the fussiest of babies. Sweet talking them with soothing tones also helps. Babies also love to be warm and calm, so subdued lighting, calming sounds (try white noise or ocean or rain sounds) and a good snuggle - or swaddling them - can usually do the trick.
5. Move it! When all else fails, a change of scenery can do the trick when dealing with a colicky baby. Going for a walk around the block, going for a drive or even walking into different rooms helps distract a fussy baby. Or hand the baby off to dad, a grandparent or even a helpful neighbor to give yourself a break

How To Get Your Toddler To Try New Foods

Many dietitians, nurses, and pediatricians have found that picky eaters can be won over to new and interesting foods by employing a trick of the trade called the "one-bite rule." It is as simple as the name implies: you simply ask that your child try one single bite of the new food you're introducing. By the time this rule can be applied, namely, to your toddlers and young children, they have already acquired a simple set of tastes. Don't blitz them with tangy foods or mixed dishes. Keep things simple and introduce one food at a time. You'll be the most successful if you introduce new foods on days when your kids are the most hungry, so plan ahead and engineer their hunger! Explain to your child that it is okay to not like something, but that it is important to try it before making up his mind. Having your child finally start to speak is one of the first milestones for a toddler. Their speech may not sound like much at first, but it is a step towards communication. An example of this is your child asking to be picked up to reach something they can't.

Starting at 18 months. Instructions

1. First, frost the cupcakes with white icing. Bend a pipe cleaner or a piece of red licorice into an arch and push the ends into the sides of each cupcake.

• 4 egg whites
• 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
• Pinch of salt
• 1 cup sugar

• 1 tsp. vanilla
• Shredded coconut
• Candy eggs (jelly beans, chocolate, egg-shaped malt balls)

  

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper (available at most grocery stores). (about 1 to 2 minutes).
   
2. In a mixing bowl, whip together the egg whites, cream of tartar and salt until soft peaks form.
   
3. Then, slowly add the sugar, beating constantly until the mixture is glossy and stiff (another minute or so). Beat in the vanilla extract until just combined.
   
4. Now you're ready to make the meringue nests. Spoon three mounds of the mixture onto each baking sheet. Use the bowl of the spoon to shape each mound into a 4-inch-wide circle with a 2-inch-deep depression in the center. Give your nests a lived-in look by sprinkling shredded coconut over each one.
   
5. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the meringues are dry and the coconut has turned golden brown. Once cool, tuck one malted candy egg or jelly bean into the nest for each child in the family. Makes 6 nests.
